Garlic Cheese Grits

Prep Time Required: No time specified.
Cooking Time Required: No time specified.

Ingredients
Garlic Powder 1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Cup Hominy grits 5 Cup Water, divided
Cheese, cubed or shredded 6 pats Butter or margarine

Directions

Put 4 cups water in a large saucepan, add salt and grits, stir well. Turn fire to high and when mixture comes to a boil turn heat down to medium-low, stir well and cover, venting lid. Cook and stir often to prevent sticking. Cook about 5 minutes (they'll start thickening) and add the remaining cup of water. Cook another 10 minutes stirring often. Serve hot in a bowl with a pat of butter, cheese and garlic powder on top. Grits are also good with just butter or a fried egg on top. NOTE: Do not add grits to hot water or lumps will form that won't break up no matter how long you cook them!

Makes unspecified amount.
